There are certain things in life that make things easier for me. A great example is that “personal assistant” on my phone that is meant to make things totally hands free while I am driving. But what happens when things go wrong? What random things does this insolent creature do against me, despite my best efforts? I really think my assistant conspires with The Wife to make me look stupid.

assistant

Me: Assistant.
Assistant: How may I help you?
Me: Text The Wife.
Assistant: What is the message?
Me: I called and they said this week. (referring to someone I called…they said this week.)
Assistant: Sending, I carved in a turkey creek.
Me: WHAT?!? Cancel. CANcel. CANCEL!
Assistant: Message sent.
Me: Oh freakin wonderful…
Assistant: Message from The Wife, LMAO Huh???
Me: Assistant
Assistant: How may I help you?
Me: Text The Wife.
Assistant: Searching “test”.
Me: NO! Text The Wife!
Me: Cancel!
Assistant: Found 10 Million results for “test”.
Me: Seriously?!?
Assistant: Searching Serenity.
Me: CANCEL!!!

Yup. It’s definitely a conspiracy.

Moto X?

moto xI have always been a fan of Motorola phones starting way back in my days of the StarTAC in 1997. (has it really been 15ish years?)The signal strength always seemed a little better than other phones and they were just a little bit more cool. Evolution over the years has brought us all to the day of the smartphone. Who has the most powerful, and biggest(?) screen, along with high def video. Honestly I don’t care about high def video on a 5 inch screen. I want to use my smartphone for email, social networking, texting, etc… I have been following this top secret device that Motorola has been calling “the X phone” for a few months and some information has been “leaked” along with the since of mystery. No one really knows what the actual specs are going to be other than a possible “clear pixel” camera. Let’s just say there is a technology that takes better photos in low light and batter focus. That means fewer blurs of the The Brookie.

Enter the Moto X, with rumors flying around everywhere that a phone is going to be released that is made in the USA and fully customizable. The ad that was released states, “The first smartphone that you can design yourself, because today you should have the freedom to design the things in your life to be as unique as you are.” The rumor mill has long held that the Moto X will be a fully customized phone—i.e., one users can effectively “design” much the way you can customize a PC when you order it online. Yet nobody knows exactly what that might mean.

The phone will potentially use a pair of processors that enable “always-on” sensors to remain contextually aware of what’s going on around its user (it’s unclear if those processors will be manufactured by Qualcomm. Again, these are rumors—anything is possible). With this supposed function, the phone will apparently react differently to various use cases. If you’re driving, for instance, it won’t allow you to bring up the text messaging application. Or if you need to snap a photo, it will immediately launch the camera application as soon as you pull it out of your pocket.

I am really not sure what Motorola has up their sleeves, but it is very interesting why this is not a powerhouse, top of the line phone, but a mid-grade device focused on the user. Technology has grown leaps and bounds the last few years, but does Motorola have a diamond in the rough? I have thought about this the last few weeks and I am starting to agree that I don’t need the biggest, baddest device on the market. I want a solid device with the features that I want. Period. Agree with me or not, use your phone and tell me there is not this one thing that you would like to do with your phone, but can’t. I’m not saying the this phone will be able to do everything, but what I am saying is that it looks like we may have a choice soon of what we want on our phone and not deal with the extra crap.

Motorola has set up a small invite only conference for the 11th and I can not wait to see what everyone has to say.
